How to hike the E1 segment of the Mullerthal trail in Luxemburg?

Warning: this might be the most beautiful hike of the BeNeLux! The Mullerthal trail is about 200 km long and is often referred to as ‘Little Switzerland’ because of the beautiful rock formations along the hike. Because almost nobody will hike the trail in once, it is divided in to different segments. Find below a more detailed description and if you prefer watching the video from our journey, scroll all the way down.

Mullerthal E1 hike description

If you prefer a longer hike, this article describes the complete route 1 of the Mullerthal trail: MULLERTHAL TRAIL ROUTE 1 FROM ECHTERNACH IN LUXEMBURG

THE E1 TRAIL

We hiked the E1 trail that starts at the trainstation of Echternach, this segment is about 12 km long and can be finished in approximately 4h. We did it in 6h but that’s because we stopped quite a lot to shoot pictures and videos and to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the trail.

Check out my Youtube video to get a better feel of how the scenery is while hiking.

At the time I did this hike I didn’t track it with any application, however I found the route from someone else on Wikiloc.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

The trail is described as hard but I think it’s more like a mid-level hike, you do need to climb some steep hills and stairs but most of the time it’s pretty easy to hike.

For now I can only speak for the E1 part of the trail but probably soon I will go back to discover the other sub-trails and I’ll keep this post up to date then.

CONCLUSION

If you’re looking for a hike that will leave you speechless many times along the way, then look no further the Mullerthal trail is for you!
